BDP Disassembly BOM Manager
Flexible disassembly BOM management with warehouse pick integration for Business Central.
1. Overview
The BDP Disassembly BOM Manager enables flexible inventory disassembly operations that go beyond traditional BOM structures in Dynamics 365 Business Central.
Unlike standard assembly BOMs, this extension allows you to create custom disassembly patterns with any combination of components, generate work orders with full location and bin management, and execute warehouse picks through an integrated mobile-ready workflow.
Key Benefits: Custom disassembly patterns, work order management, warehouse pick integration, full audit trail, and role-based access control.
2. Getting Started
Follow these steps to set up the Disassembly BOM Manager in your Business Central environment:
Install the Extension
Install the BDP Disassembly BOM Manager from Microsoft AppSource or upload the .app file through Extension Management in Business Central.
Assign Permissions
Assign the appropriate permission set (Admin, User, View, or Setup) to each user who will work with disassembly operations.
Open the Role Center
Switch your profile to “BDP Disassembly BOM Builder” from the Role Center selector. You’ll see activity cues, quick actions, and a navigation panel for Disassembly BOMs and Orders.
Create a Disassembly BOM
From the Role Center, open Disassembly BOMs and create a header for the parent item. Add component lines — positive quantities for items gained, negative for items consumed — then release the BOM.
Generate a Disassembly Order
From a released BOM, generate a Disassembly Order, set source/destination locations and the quantity multiplier, then release. For warehouse-managed locations, create the pick document and follow your standard pick-confirm-post flow.
3. Disassembly BOMs
Disassembly BOMs are reusable patterns that define how an item is broken down into components. Each BOM can contain any number of lines with flexible quantity rules.
Key Features
- • Positive quantities represent items gained from disassembly
- • Negative quantities represent items consumed during disassembly
- • No rigid constraints — define any combination of components
- • Reuse patterns across multiple disassembly orders
- • Copy existing BOMs to create variations
4. Disassembly Orders
Disassembly Orders are work documents generated from Disassembly BOMs. They track the actual execution of disassembly operations.
Order Workflow
Quantity Multiplier: Apply a multiplier when generating an order from a BOM to scale all component quantities proportionally.
Source/Destination: Assign source and destination locations and bins for each order to control where items are picked from and placed.
Status Tracking: Orders move through statuses from creation to posting, with full audit trail at each step.
5. Warehouse Pick Integration
Create warehouse pick documents directly from disassembly orders. The pick integration enables warehouse staff to execute take and place operations using the pick list interface.
Pick Operations
- • Take: Pick items from the source bin location
- • Place: Mov items to the destination bin location
- • Mobile-Ready: Pick list interface works on mobile devices for warehouse floor operations
- • Real-Time Updates: Pick status updates in real-time as operations are completed
6. Posting & Audit Trail
Post completed disassembly operations to update inventory ledger entries in Business Central. Every transaction is tracked with a complete audit history.
Important: Once posted, disassembly operations cannot be reversed. Verify all quantities and locations before posting.
7. Role Center
The dedicated Disassembly Specialist role center provides at-a-glance activity cues, quick actions, and recent document access for users who work primarily with disassembly operations.
Role Center Features
- • Activity cues showing open orders, pending picks, and recent postings
- • Quick actions to create new BOMs and orders
- • Recent documents list for quick access
- • Navigation to all disassembly-related pages
8. Permissions
The extension includes four permission sets for granular access control:
| Permission Set | Description |
|---|---|
| BDP DIS ADMIN | Full access to all disassembly features including setup and configuration |
| BDP DIS USER | Create, edit, and post disassembly orders and manage BOMs |
| BDP DIS VIEW | Read-only access to view disassembly documents and reports |
| BDP DIS SETUP | Access to extension setup and UI customization settings |
9. UI Customization
The built-in customization system allows companies to rename pages, fields, and actions to match their specific industry terminology — without any code modifications.
Example: Rename “Disassembly Order” to “Teardown Work Order” or “Component Breakdown” to match your team’s terminology.
